Location: Abia State, Nigeria
Inspiring Men to Stand for Gender Equality
NEW Foundation has taken a bold step toward advancing gender equality with the official launch of its Male Feminist Network (MFN) in Abia State. The inception meeting brought together passionate voices — male advocates, youth leaders, and gender champions — who share a vision of building a society where both men and women thrive equally.
The gathering served as an introduction to the Network’s mission: to engage men and boys as active allies in promoting gender justice and ending gender-based violence.

Highlights from the Inception Meeting
The event featured interactive discussions, group reflections, and storytelling sessions that encouraged participants to rethink traditional gender roles and challenge harmful stereotypes.
Key themes included:
- Understanding feminism from a male ally’s perspective
- The role of men in preventing gender-based violence
- Promoting respect, accountability, and equality in everyday relationships
The atmosphere was filled with energy, honesty, and commitment as participants shared their experiences and pledged to champion fairness and inclusion in their communities.
A Word from NEW Foundation
The Executive Director of NEW Foundation, Dr Kelechi Okezie, described the initiative as a major step in bridging gender advocacy and male leadership.
“We believe that gender equality cannot be achieved without the active participation of men and boys. The Male Feminist Network provides a safe and engaging platform for them to learn, unlearn, and become partners in progress,” he said.
