MEN AS ALLIES. COMMUNITIES AS CHANGEMAKERS.

24 August 2026 | Oguzoronweya Primary School, Ebonyi LGA, Ebonyi State

On 24 August 2026, 80 male allies from the Oguzoronweya Youth Association were trained on feminism, gender equality, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) under the MFN 50by50 Training Model at Oguzoronweya Primary School, Ebonyi LGA.

The training provided a safe and engaging space for honest conversations about harmful gender norms and practices, including the disinheritance of women, as well as forms of GBV such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The young men were encouraged to reflect critically on these issues, embrace positive masculinity, and recognise their responsibility in challenging practices that harm women and girls.

One of the strongest moments of the session came from the President of the Oguzoronweya Youth Association, who pledged that the association would return to examine its cultural practices and take concrete steps towards eradicating traditions that support or promote GBV.

The commitment demonstrated an important principle of community change: meaningful transformation begins when people are willing to look inward, question harmful norms, and take collective responsibility for building a better future.

Real change starts with conversations, but it grows when communities are willing to challenge harmful practices and choose a better way forward. By equipping men to become allies and changemakers, the MFN 50by50 Training Model continues to strengthen community-led action for gender equality and safer communities.

Together, we can end GBV. Together, we can build safer, more equal communities.
