Training of Farmers on Organic Farming and Climate Change

Neighbourhood Environment Watch Foundation, with support from the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), organized a 3-day practical training workshop for smallholder farmers in Abakaliki LGA of Ebonyi State on smart agricultural practices. 40 farmers, including males and females, from Edda and Enyigba communities in Abakaliki LGA were the beneficiaries of the capacity-building training program, which ran for three days.

The training program tagged “Strengthening Local Advocacy Against Climate Change (SLAACC)” covered training by experts on organic farming, soil management, Organic fertilizer and pesticide production, Agro-forestry; forest conservation, biofuels production, and clean cooking initiatives. The training program is one of the projects of the Independent Global Stock Take, IGST West Africa, which is financed by the Climate Works Foundation and coordinated by the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use, with technical support of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, based in South Africa.
